The concept of charisms, or spiritual gifts, holds significant importance in the life of a Catholic. It is through the discernment and utilization of these charisms that individuals are able to recognize the workings of the Holy Spirit within them and contribute meaningfully to the Church. Let’s explore practical ways to remember and integrate charisms into daily life.

Understanding the Significance of Charisms

Charisms are unique, God-given gifts that empower individuals to serve and build up the community. It is crucial to recognize that these gifts are not ordinary talents, but rather divine endowments that are meant to be utilized for the greater good. Embracing the understanding that charisms are a manifestation of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives provides a framework for cherishing and acknowledging these spiritual gifts.

Incorporating Charisms into Personal Prayer

Integrating charisms into one’s personal prayer life is an essential first step. By dedicating intentional moments of prayer to reflect on and foster the development of these gifts, individuals create space for the Holy Spirit to guide them in utilizing their charisms. Through prayer, one can seek clarity and direction on how to effectively employ these gifts in their daily interactions and service to others.

Creating Visual Reminders

Utilizing visual cues effectively aids in remembering and integrating charisms into daily life. Simple visual reminders, such as stickers or jewelry featuring representations of the 24 charisms, can serve as constant prompts for individuals to align their actions with their spiritual gifts. Placing these reminders in frequently visited spaces or incorporating them into everyday accessories can contribute to a regular focus on engaging with one’s charisms.

Engaging in Purposeful Activities

Intentionally participating in activities, ministries, or endeavors that align with one’s charisms can significantly enhance the conscious utilization of these gifts. By immersing oneself in environments where their charisms are directly relevant, individuals are constantly reminded of their unique calling to serve and contribute. This deliberate engagement fosters a heightened awareness of the presence and impact of charisms in everyday life.

Embracing and utilizing charisms is an integral aspect of living out one’s faith with purpose and intention. By incorporating these practical strategies into daily life, individuals can create a conducive environment for the continual recognition and intentional use of their spiritual gifts. As the journey of discerning and employing charisms unfolds, individuals are enabled to perceive the Holy Spirit’s active presence and discern their specific role in building and nurturing the church community.

Jill Simons:

Hello, and welcome to Charisms for Catholics. My name is Jill Simons, and I’m the executive director at Many Parts Ministries where we equip the Body of Christ by helping people learn about and discern their charisms, which is really another word for spiritual gifts. When you discern your charisms, you’re are able to see how the Holy Spirit is already active in your life and where he is inviting you to further build the Church. Let’s dive in. Today, we’re gonna be talking about a question we get asked a lot, which is how can I better remember my charisms and really bring that attention intention into my daily life to use them? And I think this is a really interesting question because this is something that get asked specifically if you look at, like, where people ask this question in general. How do I remember something? It’s when there’s want a huge interest in the thing by and large. So for instance, my son is a huge Michigan football fan, and he had an ecstatic last year as they went all the way to win the national championship. And he would rattle off stats about players or things that had happened in games or personal life information about the players.

Jill Simons:

And I would ask him, how do you remember that? And he would always be kind of at a loss to explain it because it was important to him, and so it was easy for him to remember it. And that’s I don’t say that to, like, frame it with, like, saw this is on you, and you are not caring enough, and that’s why you can’t remember it. But it is interesting to consider the fact that we don’t ask how we can remember something that we really care about. And so I think the better question is not just raw and, you know, kind of detached, how do I remember this better? It’s how do I come to care about this more? And I think the number one way that we come to care about our charisms more is to include them more in our personal private spiritual life. Making them something that we pray about on a regular basis. Because I don’t know about you, but for me, any time that God really does something big in my life. It’s very easy to remember. It’s very easy to crystallize the details and things like that.

Jill Simons:

And if I lose track of that, that’s typically because I have lost track of that level of attention and intimacy in my relationship relationship with God. And so I think that making the first priority, how do I include these charisms more in my times of prayer with God and my conversations with God is a great place to start. Kind of second level of defense is how can I just bring simple reminders of these things into my daily life? And this is something that I’m a big fan of. I think that there’s a ton of benefit to using simple reminders in your daily life. And one of the places that we want to empower you to do this is through a few simple physical products launching this week for the very first time on our website. We have little vinyl stickers for each of the 24 charisms that have a, like, a verb version of each charism that you can put on a water bottle, on a phone, on a computer, on a somewhere in a vehicle, wherever it is that you will see it on a regular basis as kind of a call to action to do that thing, to take that action of your charism in your daily life. And in addition to that, we are opening our preorder today for custom Charism Jewelry. So we have two different ways to do this.

Jill Simons:

One of them is a elastic band bracelet that you can fill in with your charism. It doesn’t typically have enough space for a person to write many, like, many, many charisms in it. You know, things like administration encouragement take up a lot of space really quickly. And so we encourage people to think think of typically your top, like 1, 2, maybe 3 if they’re short to right on the inside of your charism elastic bracelet and wear on a regular basis, just as that reminder, all of the designs have like a candle motif of different varieties on the outside. I just as that reminder that that is the way that you bring God’s light into the world. So we have those elastic bracelets that you can write in. We also have pre order available for our charism jewelry that it is going to have charms specific to your charisms. And you can add as many charms as you would like for whatever your charisms are.

Jill Simons:

We currently just have 1 or 2 samples of every charism, and we’re able to photograph them and get everything ready to go. And when you place your order for specifically those charm, bracelets and necklaces, it is going to be a preorder, which means that we are going to take all those preorders for a couple of weeks here, and then we’re gonna order the charms that we need. Because with 24 charisms and all different charms for each of them, you could see that that would add up pretty quickly, pretty complicated needed to get everyone the right thing at the right time. So we’re gonna do that pre order. And then with the pre order, we’re gonna add we’re gonna order a few additional pieces that we will make available on demand on our website after the fact kind of in alignment with the ones that are most popular. And we plan to open another preorder for any of the pieces again in the fall kind of heading into more of the Christmas holiday times as as we’re going into that part of the year. But this is, like I said, kind of second line of defense. A sticker, a piece of jewelry, something that is going to go with you throughout your life.

Jill Simons:

And, yes, we do have, options that are very like, a very good fit for both men and women. So this is not something exclusive to women. We have gender neutral and more masculine versions of all of these things that you can check out on our website. So we encourage you to do that. But each of these these pieces, whatever it is, is just geared at helping you remember your charisms. And you don’t have to have something like that to do it. I would never ever say that buying something would make you better at using your charisms or, make your charisms more effective unless it helps you remember and you know how you best remember things. Maybe for you, it’s a sticky note on your mirror.

Jill Simons:

And if that is what works for you, more power to you. That is absolutely the route to go. Some people like that constant availability of something wearable that that they’re going to see and remember on a regular basis. And this is also cool if you took my advice from earlier this year in using one of your charisms as a word of the year. So you might be able to find your specific word for the year as one of those charms that you can include on your piece, moving forward in the rest of this year. So first of all, including your charisms in prayer. Second of all, having physical touchstone reminders of what your charisms are. And third is to put yourself in situations where it’s really clear why you’re there.

Jill Simons:

Places where it is impossible to forget that they’re you’re there to give or you’re there to serve or you’re there to teach or you’re there to share wisdom or pastor because that is the work of the thing that you’re doing. That is what you are showing up to bring into the room. So it’s very easy to keep that top of mind and top of awareness as you’re doing that thing. So those are the three main ways that I really encourage people to take custody of their charisms, to really invest in them, to include them in prayer, to have physical touchstones of them, and to also choose to do activities, ministries, etcetera, that really make use of those things that you have been given to help keep them top of mind. If you’ve got other ways that you love to remember your charisms, make sure you share the wealth, put it in an email to me or post it in one of our forums so that you can learn all about how other people are remembering their charisms.
